I checked out this book from the library for research. Very cute. Exploding with color and a wee girl whose creative impulse cannot be stopped. Even by mom. (Even by one audacious anonymous reader who tried!)
So, why do I share all this? 1) I'm curious to know what you think, but 2) it made me think about my audience. There is the child, and then there's the adult reading to the child. Quite a balance to strike to please them both. Oh, and then there's you, the writer. (And the illustrator, the editor, the agents, the librarians, the teachers, etc.) I have decided that in the end, although it may not be the best marketing strategy, I want to please the child and myself. Those are the two audiences I'm really writing for. Certainly not THIS lady! :)
