In this post, I'd like to tell you about some picture book opportunities for the beginning of 2015. We can all continue learning the craft of picture book writing. No matter how many classes I've taken, I learn something new from different instructors. If you know of others, please list them in the comments.
Picture Book Classes I recommend
*Making Picture Book Magic taught by author Susanna Hill ~ a wonderful 4 week online class with assignments emailed by Susanna, a private Facebook group with classmates, for beginner through advanced pb writers, all for a low price
*Nonfiction Archaeology taught by author Kristen Fulton ~ THE best nonfiction picture book class out there! An 8 week online class with assignments emailed by Kristen, a private Facebook group with classmates, weekly webinars, critiques, and a surprise agent/editor to submit to at the end of class
*The Lyrical Language Lab taught by author Renee LaTulippe ~ You'll learn how to use poetic techniques in your picture book writing in this 4 week online class with assignments delivered by Renee, a closed, small Facebook group, and daily feedback.
Need to Revise?
Join Meg Miller's ReviMo (Revise More Picture Book Challenge)~ January 11-17, a week of revising picture book drafts, in which you can win prizes, read encouraging revision tips from other picture book authors who will guest post on Meg's blog. I'm in. Who's joining me?
Need encouragement and a kick in the pants to keep writing picture book drafts?
Join Julie Hedlund's 12x12 Picture Book Challenge: The challenge is to write 1 picture book draft each month, thus 12 drafts in 12 months (12x12). I've done it the past 3 years and now have 36 picture book drafts! Wow! There are three paid levels in which you can be a member. There are also great opportunities in each level, a forum, webinars, guest bloggers, prizes, and agents to submit to at the highest levels. I've learned so much from this group.
I hope to hear of many picture book successes from my writer friends this year! Happy New Year!
