A great buzz word in writing. A necessary word.
In music and sports, if you want to be great, you study the masters. Why not in writing picture books?
When I have in mind a picture book idea to write, I like to find a mentor text, a book similar to the one I want to write, but one that I can refer to for structure, word choice, word count, characters, pacing, etc...
For example, when I wrote my picture book biography, I scoured as many picture books similar to the one I wanted to write and studied first lines, endings, and everything between.
So as you prepare to write or revise your WIP, what mentor texts come to mind? Study them, and maybe you’ll get some great ideas to help you in your creation.
Happy Writing!
